MISSION: Combat Veterans Waterfowl Association, Inc™ is a 501(c)19 Non-Profit Organization specifically dedicated to providing combat veterans locations to enjoy the sport of waterfowl hunting in an environment conducive to camaraderie, information sharing, positive lifestyles, and peer to peer interaction with other combat veterans.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER: Combat Veterans Waterfowl Association (CVWA™) was founded in 2012 by Derek Gregory and his wife Michelle, with the simple idea of offering any Combat Veteran a place to hunt waterfowl free of charge. Taking their own experience of dealing with a combat tour and the challenges it places on a family, Derek and Michelle saw a need to provide a ‘Warrior focused’ service to combat veterans.
By securing waterfowl hunting areas, and providing them to combat veterans at no charge, we can provide these warriors a chance to get in a duck blind with a CVWA™ facilitator and fellow combat veterans and enjoy all the pleasures and challenges of waterfowl hunting.
Through the shared challenge and camaraderie in the duck marsh, combat veterans can share their experiences without feeling the stigmas associated with talking about combat experiences and seeking counseling. The sharing of these experiences proved to be an enormous relief and exceptionally helpful for Derek upon returning from his last deployment to Afghanistan in 2009.
Derek and Michelle recognized the therapeutic properties of waterfowl hunting. Our hope is to share this experience with other combat veterans!
